Dundee Area Badminton Round Up: Nomads and NCR Battle to a Draw as Title Race Heats Up

There was another round of fixtures in the Gents and Ladies doubles league this week.

There was an exciting encounter in Division 1 as Nomads and NCR shared the spoils.  This was level pegging throughout with a win apiece in each of the opening 2 round of games and a couple of draws to conclude.  The draw however doesn’t do any of the teams title aspirations any good with Carnoustie virtually guaranteed the league win as long as they fulfil their remaining fixtures.

In Division 2, Monifieth Grove moved to the top of the table with a 4-0 win over Pick and Mix.  Ellen Watson was the top player for the victors with 3 wins.

In Gents Division, 1 Nomads moved level with Forfar at the top of the league with a 5-1 win over NCR.  Bill Hogg and Luca Iannetta starred for Nomads with 3 wins each, with Luca moving 6 points clear at the top of the rankings.

In Division 2, Kirriemuir moved to within 3 points of the leaders with a 4-1 win over the Firies who are still searching for their first win. This was a close affair early on with Kirrie only holding a 2-1 lead going into the final round of games, but 2 further wins sealed it.

In Division 3, two teams without a win so far clashed as Forfar 2 faced Monifieth Grove and it was Forfar 2 that got that elusive win with a 3-0 victory in a close and entertaining affair which had 7 of the rubbers won by 2 points.

In Division 4, club-mates David Lloyd 2 and 3 met, with Phil Smith making a debut appearance of the season for David Lloyd 3.  The 2nd team won the derby with a 5-0 win with Sunny Mollah and Scott Packwood starring with 3 wins each, as they moved to within 3 points of the league leaders.
