Dundee Weekly Round Up – Final day of fixtures!
It was the last day of fixtures in the T Duncan & Co Gents and ladies league season.
Nomads Badminton Club ladies team entered the leagues for the first time and only had to fulfil their final fixture v reigning champions NCR Badminton Club to claim the title. Both teams would be keen to finish the season with a win, but nothing could separate the sides as they played out an entertaining 3-3 draw. Nomads Meghan Walker was the top player on the day with 3 wins, as they clinched the title and ended the Cash’s previous domination of the league, having won it every year since the competition started.
The other ladies fixture saw Dundee University gain their first win of the season with a 5-0 victory against a Monifieth Grove side who were missing key players. Abigail Zheng and Dori Zhou were the star students with 3 wins each, as the team eventually got their reward for their efforts during the season.
In Gents Division 1, champions Nomads completed their season with a 6-0 win over Roseangle to maintain an impressive 100% record.
There was a key match in Division 2 with Nomads 2 and NCR 2 both needing points to ensure safety. Nomads 2 took an early 1-0 lead in the opening round of games, but the Cash turned the match on its head winning games 3 and 4 and although Frankie Kennedy and James Westwood earned their team a 2-2 draw with an exciting 23-21 24-22 win in the final game. it wasn’t quite enough to save Nomads 2 from the drop, whereas the draw moved the Cash up to 3rd in a very tight league below champions Forfar.
In Gents Division 3, 2nd placed Forfar 2 were too strong for Monifieth Grove 2 winning 4-1. The match however wasn’t decided until the final round of games. Nick Mayer was the top player with 3 win for the victors.
