European Junior Championships – Individual Event Update

24th August 2026 by Robert McLean

The European Junior Championships Individual Event got underway on Saturday, with Scotland’s young stars making an early impression across the draws.

Jaagruti and Pranavi produced an epic three-game victory in the women’s doubles, overcoming Slovakia’s Lachova and Skutova in a hard-fought encounter.

Alfie and Lewis continued their excellent form following their success at the Irish Under 19 Championships, defeating Romanian pair Seico and Nita in straight games in the men’s doubles.

There was also a strong start in the mixed doubles, with Alfie and Qingyang securing their place in the last 32 with a straight-games victory over Slovenia’s Alič and Cerar.

Arnav also progressed to the last 32 of the men’s singles after an impressive straight-games win over Romania’s Grajdieru.

In the women’s singles, Pranavi faced a tough last-64 tie against highly rated Swiss player Victoria Dübendorfer, eventually going down in straight games. There was better news in the other Scottish women’s singles match, however, as Jaagruti battled to a three-game victory over Sweden’s Harakamani to book her place in the last 32.

The final Scottish match of the day saw Lewis and Deepti take on ninth seeds Garcia and Gil of Spain in the mixed doubles. The Scottish pair played well, but the experienced Spanish combination proved too strong on the day, winning in straight games.

Day Two

Today’s action is already well underway, with Alfie and Qingyang putting up a strong fight in their mixed doubles last-32 match against young French star Hubert and his partner Beule. Despite their efforts, the French pair progressed with a straight-games victory.

Jaagruti is currently on court in her women’s singles last-32 contest against Switzerland’s Sharma.

There is plenty more Scottish action to come today:

  • Arnav takes on fifth seed Joost from Estonia in the men’s singles last 32.
  • Alfie and Lewis face Swiss pair Crelier and Briancourt for a place in the men’s doubles last 16.
  • Jaagruti and Pranavi take on Swedish pair Liang and Sun for a place in the women’s doubles last 16.

You can follow all the action live on Badminton Europe TV.

One More Win for Team Scotland!

And finally, following last week’s report on the team event, we can confirm that Scotland did indeed have one more match to play, and the team finished with a 2–0 victory over Romania!

A fantastic way to round off the team event. Well done, Team Scotland!

Best of luck to all our players competing today, keep pushing and keep fighting!
