Excellent Run for Andrew Davies at Japan Para Badminton International

It was a fantastic week for Scotland’s para badminton players at the Japan Para Badminton International, with Andrew Davies producing an excellent run in the men’s singles and gaining valuable experience against some of the world’s leading players.

Andrew’s impressive tournament came to an end at the quarter-final stage on Friday, but not before he produced one of his standout performances of the week.

In his last 16 encounter, Andrew faced Peru’s Nilton Quispe and delivered a superb performance. Playing with confidence and determination, Andrew controlled the match well and secured a convincing 21-15, 21-14 victory to book his place in the quarter-finals.

Awaiting Andrew in the last eight was a huge challenge in the form of Brazil’s Vitor Tavares, the world number one. Despite the difficult task ahead, Andrew approached the match with great determination and fought bravely throughout.

Tavares ultimately proved too strong on the day, taking the quarter-final in straight games. However, Andrew can take great credit from his performance and from reaching the latter stages of such a high-level international tournament.

Tavares went on to reach the gold medal match, demonstrating the quality of the opponent Andrew had faced, before eventually losing out to Kai of Hong Kong in the final.

For Andrew, reaching the quarter-finals represents another important step in his development and provides plenty of positives to take forward from a highly competitive tournament.

It was also a valuable week for Owen, with both players gaining important international experience and testing themselves against some of the best para badminton players in the world.

Overall, it was a fantastic week for both Andrew and Owen, with plenty of positives to take from their performances at the Japan Para Badminton International. The experience gained from competing at this level will undoubtedly prove valuable as they continue to develop and progress on the international stage.
