French Para Badminton International 2026, Mulhouse

The French Para Badminton International provided a valuable opportunity for Scotland’s athletes to test themselves against some of the world’s highest-ranked players. Both players leave the tournament with plenty of positives to take forward and clear areas of focus for the coming months of training.

Andrew Davies competed in two disciplines, including the SH6 mixed doubles alongside England’s Anya Butterworth. The pair showed strong chemistry throughout the event, progressing to the round of 16 before facing Indonesian third seeds Subhan Subhan and Rina Marlina, who would go on to claim the gold medal.

In the SH6 men’s singles, Andrew topped his group before securing an impressive straight-sets victory over France’s world No. 13 Maxime Greboval, winning 21-14, 23-21 to reach the quarter-finals. There, he faced top seed Krishna Nagar of India, ultimately ending his run. The result reflects the significant progress Andrew has made in both his game and tactical awareness, which he will look to build on ahead of his trip to Japan in September.

Sofia Mazzoni competed across all three disciplines. In the SL3-SU5 mixed doubles, she formed a new partnership with Turkey’s Sedat Tümkaya. Despite some strong performances, the pair were unable to progress beyond the group stage.

In the SL3-SU5 women’s doubles, Sofia partnered Sophie van den Broek of the Netherlands, renewing a partnership that began earlier this year. The pair battled through two tough three-set matches to reach the quarter-finals, where they were ultimately outmatched by the stronger Indonesian pair.

Sofia also reached the quarter-finals of the SL4 women’s singles competition. After defeating France’s Maelle Guiot 21-12, 8-21, 21-16 in the group stage, a player she had previously lost to at the Czech International, Sofia demonstrated excellent resilience to secure the deciding set. In the quarter-finals, she faced Turkey’s second seed Tugce Celik, producing some high-quality rallies before her tournament came to an end.

Overall, both players showed encouraging progress from their previous international event in April and will look to continue building on these performances in the months ahead. The players were also grateful for the support and coaching provided by the GB coaching staff throughout the week.
