Gilmour Pushes Intanon Hard in Singapore

28th May 2026 by Robert McLean

Kirsty Gilmour produced a spirited performance at the KFF Singapore Badminton Open, narrowly missing out against reigning Malaysia Masters Champion Ratchanok Intanon in two fiercely contested sets.

The Thai star, currently in sensational form, claimed the opening game 21-14 with her trademark attacking precision and court control. However, Gilmour responded impressively in the second set, significantly raising her level and pushing the world-class opponent all the way in an intense battle before eventually falling 21-19.

Despite the defeat, the performance showed strong progression and resilience from the Scottish number one against one of the sport’s elite players.

There is little time to rest for Gilmour, who now heads straight to Jakarta for the POLYTRON Indonesia Open, one of the most prestigious and lucrative tournaments on the badminton calendar, where she will once again face the very best in world badminton.

A special thank you goes to coach Rajiv Ouseph for his support throughout the week in Singapore. Ouseph will continue alongside Gilmour in Jakarta as preparations continue for another major challenge on the HSBC BWF World Tour.
