Scotland’s top-ranked men’s doubles pair, Matt and Chris Grimley, are in Fullerton, California this week as they compete at the YONEX US Open, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 300 event.
The Scottish twins arrive as the fifth seeds in a highly competitive men’s doubles draw, which is headed by England’s Sean Vendy and Ben Lane. With valuable world ranking points and a prestigious title on offer, the US Open promises to provide a stern test for the international field.
Matt and Chris will begin their campaign in the last 32 in the early hours of Wednesday morning (GMT), where they face Canadian duo Lai and Mak. The Scots will be looking to make a strong start as they aim for a deep run in California.
There is further Scottish interest in the men’s doubles competition, with Alistair Casey partnering American Mat Fogarty. The pair face a tough opening challenge in qualifying against Japanese second seeds Goto and Yoshida. Their qualification quarter-final is scheduled as the fifth match on Court 2 today.
