HYLO Open Day 2 Review

28th October 2026 by Robert McLean

It was a successful Day 2 for Team Scotland in Saarbrücken today, as Kirsty Gilmour secured her place in the last 16 of the women’s singles.

Despite going into the match as the favourite, Kirsty faced a tough challenge against America’s Ella Lin, widely regarded as one of the top young female players on the circuit. However, Kirsty showed solid form throughout, producing a composed performance to defeat the world number 57 in straight games, 21-15, 21-12.

Kirsty will now face Chinese Taipei’s Shuo Yun Sung in the last 16. The pair are level at one win apiece in their previous tour meetings, with Kirsty claiming victory in their most recent encounter at the 2025 All England Championships.

With only a few places separating the two players in the world rankings, another competitive contest is expected, with a place in the quarter-finals up for grabs.

The match is scheduled to be the seventh on Court 2 tomorrow. You can cheer Kirsty on live via BWF TV on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/bwftv

Best of luck, Kirsty!
