Hylo Open – Day 4 Review

2nd November 2026 by Robert McLean

It wasn’t the result Scottish badminton fans had been hoping for on Day 4 of the Hylo Open, as Kirsty Gilmour bowed out in the quarter-finals following defeat to long-time rival Line Højmark Kjaersfeldt on Friday.

Gilmour headed into the last-eight clash full of confidence after a dominant victory over Taipei’s Shuo Yun Sung in the previous round. However, Denmark’s former European champion Kjaersfeldt proved too strong on the day, taking the match in straight games, 21-17, 21-13.

Kjaersfeldt continued her impressive run through the tournament, going on to reach the final before eventually losing out to India’s Pusarla V. Sindhu.

Overall, it has been a challenging but rewarding European swing for our Scottish players, with some excellent victories and hard-fought contests against some of the world’s best.

Attention now turns to a short training block before a busy end to the 2026 calendar year, with tournaments in Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Hong Kong and India still to come.

Finally, a big thank you to National Head Coach Ingo Kindervater, who was back at his home tournament last week. It was great to have him with the team throughout the week.
