Players enjoyed a full day of doubles action at the second Badminton Scotland Copper in Glasgow.
The second Badminton Scotland Copper took place at the Sir Craig Reedie Centre in Glasgow on Saturday 22nd August, bringing together players for a full day of doubles badminton across three events.
All players progressed through to the knockout stages, giving everyone the opportunity to play several matches and get plenty of court time throughout the day. The format provided players with the chance to experience tournament badminton, test themselves against different opponents and build on their experience throughout the event.
In the Men’s Doubles, Amitabh Bhattacharjee and Samuel Street came through a three-game semi-final against Pratyush Joshi and Ritesh Ranjan, recovering from losing the opening set to win 19–21, 21–17, 21–16.
In the other semi-final, Safyan Ahmed and Ali Tanveer beat Sandip Biswas and Thomas Jose 21-18 and 21-17 to secure their spot in the final.
They then faced Amitabh Bhattacharjee and Samuel Street who took the match 21–19, 21–17.
The Women’s Doubles saw Cara Glover and Lea Huniat take the honours. The pair came through a three-set semi-final against Winnie Ip and Chloe Lydon, winning 21–15, 15–21, 21–9.
In the other semi-final, Mellissa Carstens and Lucija Zilic beat Jo Dummett and Alma Malloy 21–16, 21–16 to set up the final.
Cara Glover and Lea Huniat then finished strongly, winning the final 21–13, 21–12 against Mellissa Carstens and Lucija Zilic.
The Mixed Doubles provided another closely fought event, with Samuel Street and Lea Huniat reaching the final.
Samuel Street and Lea Huniat beat Max Thom and Lucija Zilic 21–12, 21–10 in their semi-final, while Jason Lee and Jo Dummett came through a three-game match against Joseph Sellors and Alma Malloy, winning 19–21, 21–17, 21–18.
Samuel Street and Lea Huniat got off to a good start in the final, taking the opening game 21–17. Jason Lee and Jo Dummett responded in the second, winning 21–18 to take the match to a deciding game.
The final set went the way of Samuel Street and Lea Huniat, who won 21–8 to round off the Mixed Doubles event.
The results meant that Samuel Street and Lea Huniat both enjoyed a successful day, with Samuel Street taking the Men’s Doubles alongside Amitabh Bhattacharjee and the Mixed Doubles with Lea Huniat, while Lea Huniat also added the Women’s Doubles title alongside Cara Glover.
