1st June 2026 by Robert McLean
Jakarta hosts one of the most prestigious events on the badminton calendar this week, as the POLYTRON Indonesia Open gets underway at HSBC BWF World Tour Super 1000 level. The tournament brings together the very best players in the world, with elite-level competition across all disciplines from the opening round.
Kirsty Gilmour arrives in Indonesia ready to begin her campaign at one of the standout events of the season. She opens her tournament in the early hours of Wednesday morning against South Korea’s Yu Jin Sim, currently ranked World No. 20. The match presents a significant early test for Gilmour against high-level opposition in what is expected to be a tightly contested opening round.
This will also be the first time the two players have met on the BWF World Tour, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the encounter as both look to make a strong start in Jakarta.
Gilmour is once again supported by experienced coach Rajiv Ouseph, whose experience at the top level of the sport will be an important asset throughout the week.
As one of the flagship events on the BWF World Tour, the Indonesia Open demands consistency and high performance from the very first rally. Gilmour will be aiming to produce her best badminton against one of the tour’s leading contenders.
Fans can follow the action live via BWF TV – YouTube with full tournament coverage available throughout the week.
A full review of Kirsty Gilmour’s performance and the wider tournament will be published at the conclusion of the event.
