Promising Return for Angus Meldrum at YONEX Dutch Open

30th September 2026 by Robert McLean

Angus Meldrum made a promising return to the European Circuit this afternoon at the YONEX Dutch Open, despite falling to Denmark’s fourth seed in qualifying, Mathias Solgaard.

Meldrum found himself up against a highly ranked Danish opponent and was unable to prevent Solgaard from taking the opening game 21–12. However, the second game was a much more competitive affair, with Angus looking increasingly comfortable as the match progressed.

The Scottish player pushed Solgaard for long spells and showed plenty of determination to stay with his opponent, before eventually going down 21–16.

Despite the straight-games defeat, there were plenty of positives for Meldrum to take from his return to competitive action. Facing a player of Solgaard’s ranking was a tough test, but Angus showed in the second game that he could compete and put pressure on his Danish opponent.

With the YONEX Dutch Open marking the beginning of a busy end to the calendar year, Meldrum can take confidence from his performance as he looks ahead to further opportunities on the European Circuit, with tournaments in Ireland, Scotland and Wales still to come.

The focus now turns to those upcoming events, with Angus looking to build on his return and continue his progress through the final months of the season.
