Scotland Show Fighting Spirit at European Junior Team Championships

20th August 2026 by Robert McLean

Scotland’s run at the European Junior Team Championships came to an end yesterday afternoon, with the team bowing out following a spirited performance against a strong Slovakian side.

Despite several razor-close matches across the two sessions, it was Slovakia who ultimately came out on top, taking the tie 2–0. The overall scores of 55–37 and 55–48 reflect the competitiveness of the contest, with Scotland pushing their opponents throughout and showing plenty of determination against a well-established Slovakian team.

The result followed another demanding tie on Tuesday, when Scotland faced one of the tournament favourites in France. The French team featured Mady Sow, a player widely tipped to become a future top-10 player, providing Scotland’s young players with the opportunity to test themselves against some of the very best talent Europe has to offer.

Once again, there were a number of strong Scottish performances, with the team showing that they could compete with players operating at the highest level of European junior badminton. France ultimately secured a 2–0 victory, with cumulative scores of 55–32 and 55–29, but the experience provided valuable lessons and a chance for Scotland’s players to gain experience against some of the continent’s leading junior athletes.

While the team event has now come to an end, the tournament is far from over for Scotland.

All attention now turns to the individual event, which begins on Saturday, giving the players another opportunity to compete, learn and challenge themselves on the European stage.

A huge well done to Arnav, Lewis, Alfie, Jaagruti, Deepti, Qingyang and Pranavi for their efforts throughout the team event, and to our coaching team of Gordon, Julie and Jonhattan for their hard work and support throughout the championships.

The team may have reached the end of its run, but there is plenty more badminton to come.

Bring on the individual event!
