Scots Set for Malta International Test in Cospicua
14th April 2026 by Robert McLean
A strong Scottish contingent is set to compete in the Malta International Future Series this week, as they head to the historic harbour city of Cospicua for several days of international competition. With valuable ranking points and early-season momentum on the line, the event presents an important opportunity for Scotland’s emerging players to make their mark on the European circuit.
The action gets underway on Thursday with the men’s singles qualifying rounds, where three Scots will be aiming to battle their way into the main draw against a competitive field of international talent.
Leading the charge is Finlay Jack, who will be first to represent Scotland on court. Jack faces a tough test against home favourite Nigel Degaetano in the round of 64. Playing in front of a local crowd always brings added pressure, but Jack will be looking to impose his game early and silence the support. His match is scheduled as the fifth contest on Court One, and a positive result could set the tone for the Scottish squad.
Following him is Matthew Waring, who has been handed a tricky opening draw against highly regarded Danish youngster Nikolaj Søgaard. Danish players are traditionally strong across all disciplines, and Søgaard’s technical ability is likely to pose a significant challenge. Waring will need to be sharp from the outset when he takes to Court Three for the seventh match of the day.
Later in the schedule, James Robertson completes the Scottish singles representation on day one. He faces Welsh opponent Archie Bult in what could prove to be a closely contested all-British encounter. Fine margins could decide the outcome when they meet in the ninth match on Court Four.
Attention will then turn to the doubles competition on Friday, where Scotland will be represented by the pairing of Josh Taylor and Evan Kenny in the men’s doubles main draw. The duo will be aiming to build momentum quickly as they look to progress deep into the tournament and challenge established partnerships from across Europe.
With a blend of youth, determination, and international ambition, the Scottish squad will be eager to deliver strong performances across the week in Malta. The Malta International Future Series offers not only the chance for progression but also crucial experience on the senior international stage.
