International Masters Match – Gaelic Trophy

The weekend began in style on Friday 16 January at the Sir Craig Reedie Centre with an International Masters Match held ahead of the main competition. Hard‑fought matches played in fantastic spirit saw Scotland triumph 25–15, retaining the prestigious Gaelic Trophy.

An incredible weekend of top‑class badminton followed at the Sir Craig Reedie Centre and National Badminton Academy in Glasgow (16–18 January), as Scotland proudly welcomed one of the flagship events on the Badminton Europe Senior Circuit.

Event Stats

The scale and intensity of this year’s tournament were remarkable:

  • 41 individual events
  • 15,515 minutes on court
  • 38,594 points contested
  • 16 courts used

Longest Match
The longest battle came in MD45, lasting 66 minutes, as Stephen Morrison / David Thomson (Ireland) faced Daniel Skrceny / Vratislav Vik (Czechia) in a gripping three‑game contest:
22–24, 21–16, 24–22

The Ceilidh Dinner held at the Glynhill was a huge success with 180 players in attendance.  Thanks to all of the Scots and foreign players who took the time to dress in Kilts and tartan on what is becoming the best party in Europe of its kind.
