Scottish Learning Disability Badminton Championships 2025
– Written by David Gillespie –
Learning Disability badminton players enjoyed a full day and half of competition at the second Scotland Learning Disability Sport National Summer Games held at Stirling University 25-27 July 2025. Badminton was part of a multi-sports weekend. Players from Shetland, Dumfries & Galloway, Lothian, West of Scotland, and four guests from Wales made up the 36 athletes that competed in singles, level doubles and mixed doubles badminton events.
Many of the matches went into nail-biting third games. With no setting, the single point sudden death built the excitement to a high point. The matches entertained the 60-80 spectators made up of 10 coaches, team mates, families and friends, plus 25 volunteers, acting as court officials and assistants, and the event Admin Team, right up to the end of play. I cannot thank enough the SLDS organisers, volunteers and coaches, without whose time, patience and expertise the event would not run as smoothly or even take place. I would also like to thank Badminton Scotland for providing shuttlecocks, Tournament Software and A-Boards (SCOTLAND The Perfect Stage) for the event.
Finally, congratulations to all the players who were aptly presented with their medals by Tournament Referee and past President of Badminton Scotland, Morag McCulloch, and the current President of Badminton Scotland, Colin Campbell.
