Scottish Masters to Compete in Nations Cup

The Scotland Masters team of 37 players aged 40+ to 65+ will compete in the Nations Cup in Ronda, Spain from Thursday 12th Sunday 15th June.

This will be the first year in decades that Scotland has entered this top tier European event that will see players aged 40+ to 65+ fight it out for the coveted title of a European Masters Team Champions.

Scotland have been drawn in a pool with our auld enemies England and newer adversaries Ireland, as well as hosts Spain. The format is a head-to-head match against each nation, comprising 1 men’s doubles, 1 women’s doubles and 2 mixed doubles in each age group. Depending on our pool position we will then enter the top or bottom half of the knockout draw where we’ll play at least 2 more matches for our final position.

Team Captain Julie Dunlop will compete in the 55+ age group and commented “I am happy Scotland are involved this year.  We are taking a large team, not just to cover injuries but to increase participation in international badminton.  I would love a top 6 finish but if we all try our best, support each other and enjoy then it’s a huge win.”
