Scottish National Junior Championships U13 & U17 2026 Round-Up
The 2026 Scottish National Junior Badminton Championships (U13 & U17) took place on 11th–12th April at the Sir Craig Reedie Centre in Glasgow, delivering an exciting weekend of high-level junior competition as Scotland’s top young players battled it out for national titles.
With semi-finals and finals played on the Sunday, spectators were treated to a packed schedule of closely fought matches and impressive performances across all five disciplines.
U17 Highlights
The standout story of the weekend came in the U17 category, where Alfie Martin produced an exceptional treble, claiming gold in boys’ singles, boys’ doubles and mixed doubles. Jaagruti Mannem was another standout, winning the double in girls’ singles and girls’ doubles. Demonstrating consistency, resilience and attacking quality throughout, their combined achievements stood out as two of the most dominant performances of the championships.
Across the other U17 events, several players delivered strong performances to reach the podium places:
- The girls’ doubles crown went to Jaagruti Mannem & Shreya Vargheese, whose partnership proved effective in the finals with excellent communication and court coverage.
- In boys’ doubles, Martin combined effectively with his partner, Reyansh Arora, to secure a win after losing the first set against tough opponents, Nathan Luo & Calum Tsang, 18-21, 21-18, 25-23.
- The mixed doubles final saw Martin complete his treble alongside his partner, Layla Shaw, capping off a remarkable weekend.
Overall, the U17 category demonstrated the depth of Scotland’s junior pathway, with several semi-finalists also producing high-quality badminton and pushing the eventual champions in competitive matches.
U13 Highlights
The U13 competition showcased an exciting generation of emerging talent, with many players delivering performances well beyond their years. A special mention to Sumanth Prakash who won double gold in boys’ doubles and mixed doubles, narrowly missing out on first place in singles where Aarav Sinha took the title in a close three setter, 11-21, 21-19, 21-16.
- Hanvikha Mannem took the girls’ singles title, demonstrating strong consistency and composure throughout, much like her older sister Jaagruti.
- The boys’ doubles title went to Sumanth Prakash & Liam Sinclair, with Prakash completing a notable double in the U13 category.
- In girls’ doubles, Sharanya Dharerao & Shreeya Pandey combined effectively to take gold.
- The mixed doubles title was secured by Sumanth Prakash & Ella Luo.
Several other players also stood out with multiple podium finishes, underlining the competitive depth in this age group. Notably, Shreeya Pandey, Arisha Markute and Joshua Gajri featured prominently across multiple events.

Across both age groups, the championships highlighted the strength and depth of junior badminton in Scotland. From dominant performances like Alfie Martin’s U17 treble to multiple title winners in the U13 category, the weekend demonstrated a promising pipeline of talent progressing through the system.
