Scottish Open 2024: Adam Pringle and Rachel Andrew open day two of the tournament

Scottish teammates Adam Pringle and Rachel Andrew have opened Day 2 of this year’s Scottish Badminton Open 2024.

The dynamic mixed doubles duo faced a difficult opening game against German challengers Patrick Volkmann and Franziska Volkmann. The Volkmann pair began to dominate the first set with ease making it impossible for the home athletes to close the gap.

The powerful serves from Patrick, Czech Open semi-finalist, sent the shuttlecock dangerously close to the lines making it difficult for Andrew to retaliate which allowed the Germans to take the first set 21, 12.

However, the second set was not as easy for the Deutschland duo as Pringle’s quick reactions kept the pair in the game until back to back serves from Franziska sealed the score of the first match of the day 21, 15.

When asked about opening Day 2 of the tournament, Pringle said: “It was quite tough trying to start early and get ready, not playing my best this morning unfortunately, so we lost our first one (match) but hopefully we come back later and put in a better performance.”

Patrick and Franziska will advance to the second round of Mixed Doubles qualification where they will face Switzerland pair Yann Orteu and Caroline Racloz.

Pringle will play in the Scotland v Scotland Men’s Doubles slam with teammate, Callum Crangle, against Josh Taylor and Alexander Dunn later this afternoon.
