Scottish Open 2024: Alexander Dunn and Julie Macpherson Through To The Semi-Finals
Scotland’s Alexander Dunn and Julie Macpherson have kickstarted the third day of the Scottish Badminton Open 2024 with a win.
For the first Scotland match of the day, over on Court 1, the pair took on fellow Scot Mathew Grimley who was partnered with Sara Thygesen from Denmark.
This win means that the players are guaranteed a medal at this year’s Open.
Dunn and Macpherson dominated the start of the match and won the first set 21-12. They pair continued to demonstrate their strength throughout the game, which led to them also winning the second set 21-12.
When asked how the game went Dunn, said: “Perfect, to be honest. We had quite a scrappy match yesterday where we didn’t find our best badminton.
“Today our game plan, our commitment, our performance, everything just went well, so honestly really pleased with it.”
Macpherson added: “I think we were more relaxed playing today. I think everything was working really well.
“We are just really pleased with how we performed today.”
This quarter-final match win sees the pair progress to the semi-finals, where they will take on Denmark’s Christian Faust Kjær Maiken Fruergaad later tonight.
Ahead of the game tonight Dunn hopes that they can take confidence from knowing they have previously beat their oponents.
However, he added: “It will be a tough and tricky game as they are very good players.
“We will hopefully perform as we did there and keep winning.”
Dunn and Macpherson have had some success together earlier this year as they made it to their first final as a team at the Hylo Open in Germany, where they won silver.
