Scottish Open 2024: Two Top Ranked Women’s Single Players Battle It Out On Court For The First Quarter-Final Match

Over on Court 1 another exciting match took place between Julie Dawall Jakobsen from Denmark, who is top seed in the qualifications, and Kaloyona Nalbantova from Bulgaria, who is the 5th seed.

The players battled it out in an intense three set game. Jakobsen claimed the first set 21-16. However, a determined Nalbantova came back fighting in the second set to win 21-13. In the final set of the game, Jokobsen managed to regain control and after some fierce rallies she broke away to win 21-17.

Jakobsen is currently ranked number 37 in the world for the Women’s singles and Nalbantova is ranked 71.

When asked how she felt the game went today Jakobsen, said: “I think it was a tough one.
“I knew that Kaloyana can play well, and I think she played very well today, so I am happy that I managed to stay in the game and that I won the third set.”

Ahead of her semi-final match tonight Jakobsen said she is “ready” but is feeling “mentally tired” as this is her last tournament of the season.

However, Jakobsen is determined to dig deep and fight for the win.She said: “It’s about finding the last mental abilities to win.

“Physically I am feeling good so hopefully it will be enough to win the next one as well.”

Jakobsen will take on Huang Yu-Hsun in the semi-finals later tonigh
