Scottish Shuttlers Ready for Arctic Open 2026
5th October 2026 by Robert McLean
Scotland’s leading badminton players are in Vantaa, Finland, this week as they prepare to compete at the CLASH OF CLANS Arctic Open 2026, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 500 tournament.
The prestigious event is the first of four elite-level tournaments taking place over the coming weeks, with Scotland’s players ready to test themselves against some of the world’s best.
There is plenty of Scottish interest on the opening day, with players competing across men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.
Alex Dunn and Julie MacPherson face Denmark’s Kolding and Werge in an all-European last-32 clash. Both pairs are ranked inside the world’s top 50, setting up a highly competitive opening-round encounter.
Fresh from their impressive gold-medal success at the Yonex Dutch Open, twins Matt and Chris Grimley begin their Arctic Open campaign against the winners of Qualification Match 3.
The pair will be looking to carry their excellent recent form into another major World Tour event.
Kirsty Gilmour will also begin her women’s singles campaign against the winner of Qualification Match 3 as she looks to make her mark on another Super 500 event.
Alex Dunn and Adam Pringle have been promoted to the main draw and face England’s Zach Russ and Alex Green in a mouth-watering last-32 men’s doubles encounter.
Ciara Torrance and Julie MacPherson face a major challenge in the women’s doubles, taking on fifth seeds Bao and Cao of China in their opening match.
National Coach Robert Blair will be with the team throughout the week as Scotland’s players look to make an impact against a strong international field.
With four major tournaments coming up in the weeks ahead, the Arctic Open provides another valuable opportunity for our leading shuttlers to compete at the highest level.
Fans can follow the action from Vantaa on BWF TV, with live coverage available throughout the tournament.
