Scottish Stars Eye Impact at KAPAL API Indonesia Open
3rd June 2025 by Robert McLean
An exciting week of world-class badminton awaits as Scotland’s top shuttlers step onto the courts in Jakarta for the prestigious KAPAL API Indonesia Open – a HSBC BWF World Tour Super 1000 event with crucial ranking points on offer.
Early action saw Julie MacPherson and Ciara Torrance face a tough test in the women’s doubles, battling hard but ultimately going down to Indonesian favourites Sita Sarah Azzahra and Agnia Sri Rahayu. The home pair, ranked world No. 46, edged the Scots 21-16, 21-14 in a competitive opening round.
In women’s singles, all eyes turn to Kirsty Gilmour, who is set to face Malaysia’s Jin Wei Goh in a compelling first-round encounter. Remarkably, this is their first meeting since the 2015 Belgian International Final, where Goh claimed victory in straight games. With Gilmour aiming to rediscover her top form, she’ll be hoping to reverse that result and secure a place in the last 16. Her match is slated as the 13th on Court 2 tomorrow.
In mixed doubles, Alex Dunn and Julie MacPherson face a swift rematch against Jesper Toft and Amalie Magelund of Denmark – the fifth seeds – following their recent clash at the Singapore Open. It promises to be a stern test, but one the Scottish duo can rise to if they hit peak performance. The match is scheduled as the 7th on Court 3 tomorrow.
The team is guided this week by coach Robert Blair, whose wealth of experience at major tournaments will be a vital asset on and off the court.
Fans can follow the action live on the BWF’s official YouTube channel, BWF TV – YouTube with a thrilling week of badminton in Jakarta just getting underway.
