Scottish Stars Set for Battle at the VICTOR Denmark Open

October 14 by Robert McLean

Scotland’s top badminton talent has arrived in Odense, Denmark, as they prepare to compete at one of Europe’s most prestigious events – the VICTOR Denmark Open, part of the HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 series.

This elite-level tournament consistently draws the best players from around the world, and this year is no exception. The Scottish squad will once again be supported by Performance Coach Robert Blair, a seasoned figure on the world stage with experience both as a player and coach.

Strong Start in Mixed Doubles

Kicking off proceedings in style, Alex Dunn and Julie MacPherson secured a confident straight-sets victory over Thailand’s Pakkapon Teeraratsakul and Sapsiree Taerattanachai. It was a statement performance from the Scottish pair, who will now look to build momentum in what is a fiercely competitive mixed doubles draw.

Busy Schedule for MacPherson

Julie MacPherson will return to the court later today, this time alongside Ciara Torrance in the women’s doubles. The duo will face off against the talented Indian sisters Rutaparna Panda and Swetaparna Panda, with expectations high for a closely contested match on Court 3.

Kirsty Gilmour Eyes Upset in Women’s Singles

In the women’s singles, Scotland’s number one, Kirsty Gilmour, is set for a tough opening round clash against Indonesia’s world number 8, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung. Gilmour will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing Arctic Open campaign and knows she’ll need her very best badminton to overturn a 0-4 head-to-head record against the Indonesian star. The match is scheduled as the sixth encounter on Court 2.

Grimley Brothers Begin Campaign Tomorrow

Completing the Scottish lineup are Matt and Chris Grimley, who will get their men’s doubles campaign underway tomorrow. With a world-class field in play, the Scottish pair will need to bring their top form as they seek a deep run in the draw.
