Scottish Talent Set for Pécs at Inaugural Hungarian Future Series
31st March 2026 by Robert McLean
A strong Scottish contingent has travelled to the historic city of Pécs for the inaugural 1st Hungarian Future Series 2026 presented by VICTOR, marking an exciting new addition to the Badminton World Federation calendar.
With play getting underway tomorrow, Scottish players are set to feature prominently from the very first shuttle.
Finlay Jack opens the Scottish campaign as the first match on Court 2 in the men’s singles qualifying round of 64. He faces Slovenia’s Gal Bizjak, aiming to secure his place in the main draw.
There is also plenty of anticipation surrounding rising men’s doubles pair Blair Tait and Lewis Smith. The young duo make their debut at Future Series level and will take on Romania’s Vlad Dehelean and Serbia’s Borko Petrovic in the round of 16 qualifying. Scheduled as the 17th match on Court 3, a win would see the Scottish teenagers progress into the main draw.
The final Scottish involvement on opening day comes in mixed doubles, where new partnership Josh Taylor and Ishbel McCallister face Poland’s Szymon Gwiazda and Dominika Bartlomiejczuk in the qualifying round of 32.
Attention then turns to Thursday, when several Scots begin their main draw campaigns. Evan Kenny teams up with Josh Taylor in the men’s doubles, while Brooke Stalker and Ishbel McCallister launch their women’s doubles challenge. Brooke will also team up with Evan Kenny in the mixed doubles. In the singles, James Robertson will also get his tournament underway in the men’s main draw.
