Scottish Trio Set for Challenge at Yonex Dutch Open

1st October 2025 by Robert McLean

Three Scottish badminton talents are set to take on international competition this week as they head to ’s-Hertogenbosch for the Yonex Dutch Open, an International Challenge event on the Badminton Europe circuit.

The tournament kicks off today with qualifying rounds in both the men’s and women’s singles, where two of Scotland’s rising stars will look to make their mark.

Shaun Ally Aamir is first in action on Court 2, facing a tough opening test against home favourite Dennis Koppen. The atmosphere is sure to be lively with the Dutch crowd behind their player, but Aamir will be aiming to silence the stands with a strong performance.

Immediately following that match, Vibha Raman steps onto court 2, also facing a Dutch opponent in Esmerelda van Drunen. Raman, who has shown strong domestic form, will be hoping to navigate the pressure of qualifying and secure her place in the main draw.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, Scotland’s number one men’s singles player, Callum Smith, will begin his campaign directly in the main draw. Smith has been building momentum and will be aiming for a deep run to solidify his place among Europe’s top contenders.

You can follow all the action live on Badminton Europe TV.
