SSBU Event – 25/04/26
The 2012 Age Group Event was held at Wishaw on Saturday 25th April.
27 boys were in the singles so there were 7 pools. All 7 seeded players went through to the A knock-out, but top seed Kavin Raman lost in the pool to Fraser Hogg so only qualified 2nd in the pool. Fraser went on to beat Isaac Voag in the top quarter final before losing 21-13, 21-8 to Sumanth Prakash in the semi-final. Kavin meantime found himself with a much harder draw in the knockout beating Chris Agnew 16-21, 21-19, 23-21 in the first round and then beating Cyril Chim 21-18, 22-20 in the quarter final. Second seed Saathvik Saravanan was next in the semi-final and another close result with Kavin winning 21-16, 21-18. The final against Sumanth was another 3 setter with Kavin finally winning 10-21, 21-19, 21-16.
13 girls had entered the girl’s singles, but unfortunately top seeded Anvita Awasthi was unable to attend. The remaining seeded players safely proceeded to the knock-out. In the top half Bhanu Duvvuri beat Tin Nam Lai in the semi-final 21-17, 21-17 while in the bottom half Sophia Gajri beat Arisha Murkute 21-16, 21-13. The final was very close with Sophia winning 21-11, 18-21, 21-13.
10 pairs were in the boy’s doubles, so this was played as 2 pools. The 2 seeded pairs got safely through to the A knock-out which as time was short was played as best of three to 15 points. Top seeds Sumanth Prakash & Saathavik Saravanan lost to Fraser Hogg and Ruben du Plessis 15-9, 15-13 but Fraser & Ruben could not quite manage to beat the other seeded pair Chris Agnew & Kavin Raman losing the final 15-12, 17-15.
The girl’s doubles were played as a single pool of 5 pairs. The winners were top seeded Sophia Gajri & Bhanu Duvvuri with runners up Amie Roger and Josie Smith.
The SSBU season finishes with the primary championships next Saturday and the primary quaich on the following Wednesday.
