SSBU Primary Quaich – 13/05/26

Four primary school teams gathered at Wishaw Sports Centre on Wednesday 13th May to take part in the Gibb Memorial Primary Schools Quaich. The event was played as a round robin. There were 11 rubbers per match and so it was decided to play the games as best of 3 sets to 15 points. There were many close games and the children all enjoyed the event.

In round one Giffnock Primary took on Holy Family Primary and Dunbar Primary played Brunstsfield Primary. Bruntsfield won their match 9 – 2 while Holy Family showed their strength in beating Giffnock 7-4. The closest match of the event was the second boy’s doubles which Giffnock pair Jake Harrison & Arthur Latta won 15-7, 17-19, 20-18 against Vihaan Chinimilli & Adnan Mohammed. The second girl’s singles and both girls doubles in this match also went to 3 ends.

Round 2 proved to be much quicker with Giffnock beating Dunbar 9-2 and Holy Family beating Bruntsfield by the same margin.

In the final round the match between Bruntsfield and Giffnock was very close with Bruntsfield taking the early lead and still leading 5-4 with just the girls doubles to play. The Giffnock girls however proved to be stronger winning both matches to give them second place. The match between Dunbar and Holy Family had four 3 set games but Holy Family won the tie 9-2 to take the trophy.

The SSBU AGM is being held as a Microsoft Teams meeting next Wednesday evening (Contact Hugh Ainsley if you wish to attend) but apart from that the season is now over, and we look forward to a new season starting in October.
