STATE Denmark Challenge – Preview
27th May 2026 by Robert McLean
Scotland’s sole representative this week at the STATE Denmark Challenge is James Robertson, with the Scotsman facing a difficult task to reach the main draw in a stacked men’s singles field.
Competing in Brøndby, just outside Copenhagen, Robertson begins his campaign tomorrow in the qualifying round of 64, where he has been handed one of the toughest possible opening tests against Malaysia’s Kai Hern Huan. The Malaysian arrives as the world number 128 and the sixth seed in qualifying, underlining the scale of the challenge awaiting the Scot.
The STATE Denmark Challenge is regarded as one of the stronger events on the European Circuit calendar, regularly attracting established international names and rising talent from across Asia and Europe.
Robertson and Kai Hern Huan are scheduled as the fifth match on court 4, with qualification matches streamed live throughout the day on Badminton Europe TV.
