STATE Denmark Challenge – Review
1st June 2026 by Robert McLean
James Robertson was unable to secure a place in the main draw at the STATE Denmark Challenge after competing in a highly competitive men’s singles qualifying field in Brøndby.
After receiving a walkover in his Round of 64 qualifying match, Robertson faced a stern test against Chinese Taipei’s Lei, currently ranked world number 263. The Scot produced an excellent performance in the opening game, playing with confidence and control to take the first set 21-18.
However, Lei demonstrated his quality to turn the match around. The teenager raised his level significantly in the following two games, overpowering Robertson to claim the contest with 21-8 and 21-10 victories in the second and third sets respectively.
Despite the disappointment of missing out on the main draw, Robertson showed encouraging signs against higher-ranked opposition and will look to build on that performance when he returns to international competition in just under two weeks’ time at the Valence Alpes International in France.
