Strathclyde BC Crowned 2025 Senior Scottish Cup Champions
The 2025 edition of the Senior Scottish Cup Finals delivered a thrilling day of top-tier badminton, packed with standout performances, fierce competition, and a commanding title run from Strathclyde BC, who emerged as the champions.
Finals Day began with two quarter-final clashes: Strathclyde BC took on Western 2, while County BC faced EBA 1. Strathclyde set the tone early, delivering a flawless 7-0 performance against Western 2. County BC were equally impressive, kicking off their campaign with a clinical 6-1 victory over EBA 1.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, two teams; Western BC 1 and Ai Yu advanced directly to the semi-finals via walkovers, following the withdrawal of their opponents.
The semi-finals brought an extra layer of intensity. In one of the tightest matches of the tournament, County BC edged past Western BC 1 with a dramatic 4–3 win, sealed in a nail-biting final game. Meanwhile, Strathclyde BC continued their strong form, sweeping Ai Yu 7-0 without dropping a single game.
The final saw Strathclyde BC face off against County BC. Strathclyde started strong, with Danny Robson defeating Miles Milner convincingly (21-10, 21-10) in the men’s singles, followed by Sophie Ford overcoming Pranavi Singh (23-21, 21-15) in the women’s singles.
In the men’s doubles, Evan Kenny and Danny Robson edged out County’s Lewis Gallacher and Josh Taylor in a closely contested battle (21-19, 21-18). Matthew Waring and Ross Dick then extended Strathclyde’s lead with a solid 21-14, 21-15 win over Milner Milner and Ken Teh.
By this point, Strathclyde had secured the title – having won all contested singles and men’s doubles matches throughout the day. Nevertheless, the remaining games were played in great spirit, showcasing the competitive integrity and sportsmanship of both teams.
County BC earned their first point in the women’s doubles, with Holly Newal and Emma Donald mounting a spirited comeback to defeat Kirsten Berry and Sophie Ford in three thrilling sets (15-21, 21-12, 21-12). The mixed doubles followed, with Josh Taylor and Holly Newal edging out Evan Kenny and Kirsten Berry in another three-set battle (12-21, 21-15, 27-25), bringing the final score to 5-2 in favour of Strathclyde BC.

Runners Up – County BC
Strathclyde BC’s unbeaten run throughout the competition was a testament to their depth, consistency, and team cohesion – earning them the well-deserved title of 2025 Senior Scottish Cup Champions.
Strathclyde captain Ross Dick reflected on the victory: “It’s a great honour for the club. We’ve come a long way to win the Scottish Cup this year. We’ve entered the Scottish cup for the second year in a row and now officially won it and it’s good to get the full club involved”
