The Scottish Badminton National Results 2025!

Kickstarting the Scottish National Championships Finals was the Mixed Doubles Final. Over on Court 1 Adam Pringle and Julie Macpherson faced Christopher Grimley and Ciara Torrance in an exciting game.

At first it was a pretty even start to the match. However, Grimley and Torrance quickly began to break away and take the lead and winning the first set 21-14. With some strong play from both sides, Grimley and Torrance proved to be the dominant pair in this set as they brought on a heavy attack in the second half of the set.

It was clear that Pringle and Macpherson came back fighting after their first set loss. Some strong attacking play from the pair lead to them breaking away and gaining the lead over Grimley and Torrance. The players went point for point until Grimley and Torrance pulled away at the break leading 7-11. On the return MacPherson and Pringle take the lead and push on to a 17-11 having found their rythem. Torrance and Grimley pull back 3 consecutive points to 17-13. The match draws to a close with the match point hitting at 20-14 but Pringle and Macpherson don’t take the 21 until it is 21-16 with a smash from Pringle to keep them in the game.

Into the final round of the game, both pairs came back hungry. After a close start and some long rallies, Pringle and Macpherson proved their strength and began to break away from their opponents.

Maintaining their dominance, Pringle and Macpherson managed to pull through the second set to win 21-16 and be crowned the 2025 Scottish National Championships Mixed Doubles title.

This is the first time Pringle and Macpherson have played as a pair in a tournament, and Macpherson said that “it feels really good to win together”.

She added: “I have had quite a few partners in the Nationals over the last few years and our partners were both injured so it made sense to play together. We are just really pleased to get the win today.”

Pringle said: “It was just so edgy until the end there, so it was good to push through and get the win.”

Pringle added that it was a “proud moment” for him to be taking home his first National title.

 

Men’s Singles Final

In an exciting Men’s Singles Final, Callum Smith faced Matthew Waring.

In an exciting three set match over on Court 1, top seed Smith was victorious. In the first set Smith proved his strength and pulled away to win 21-10.

However, in the second set the roles reversed and Waring came back fighting. Attacking hard, Waring managed to pull away from Smith to win the this round 21-16.

In the third set, Smith remained the dominant player. He came back onto the court hungry for the win. Smith attacked hard and quickly pulled away from Waring to win the set 21-3.

Coming into this competition as the one to beat, Smith has managed to seal half a decade of dominance by winning his fifth consecutive Men’s Singles Nationals title.

Women’s Singles Final

The Women’s Singles Final saw the top two female seeds of the coemption go head-to-head.

Top seed Rachel Sugden faced second seed Katrina Chan in an exciting game over on Court 2. This was Chan’s first time being ranked as second seed in the Nationals.

In an exciting first set of the match, both players fought hard but Sugden manged to break away from Chan to win 21-14.

Into the second set, Chan came back fighting. However, Sugden proved to be the more dominate player on the court today. After some back and forth play, Sugden again broke away from her opponent to take the set 21-12.

This straight set win means Sugden has defended her 2024 Scottish National Championships title in the Women’s Singles.

 

Women’s Doubles Final

It’s been a day of victories for Julie Macpherson. Fresh from her win with Adam Pringle in the Mixed Doubles Final, she was back onto the court for the Women’s Doubles Finals.

After facing each other in the Mixed Doubles Final, Macpherson and Ciara Torrance paired up for the Women’s Doubles competition. They faced Toni Woods and Holly Newall in the final.

Ranked top seed, Torrance and Macpherson were fighting for their sixth title together. In an exciting final, the duo proved to be the dominant pairing. In a strong first set, Torrance and Macpherson pulled away to win 21-9.

In another string set, Torrance and Macpherson remained the dominant players. Although Newall and Woods came back hungry in the second set they struggled to break away from their opponents.

An intense attacking approach led to Torrance and Macpherson winning the second set 21-6.

This straight set victory today means Torrance and Macpherson have won their sixth title together.

 

Men’s Doubles Final

In an exciting Men’s Doubles Final, the top seeds of the competition went head to head. The Grimley twins faced Angus Meldrum and Adam Pringle in an intense final showdown.

In a close first set, seconds seeds Meldrum and Pringle put up a strong fight against first seeds the Grimley brothers. After some strong attacking play from both sides, the Grimley twins just managed to win the set 21-19.

Into the second set, it was clear that the Grimley twins were hungry for the win. After a much closer first set, the pair proved to be the more dominant players this time round. Quickly the brothers managed to pull away from their opponents, taking the second set 21-3.

This win today means that the Grimley brothers retain their Men’s Doubles Nationals title.
