The Under 15s Home Nations Quadrangular kicks off with a spirited team event.

The Under 15s Home Nations Quadrangular kicked off to great success with the team event where Scotland, Wales, Ireland and England taking on each other across five events. 

Round One

The hosts took on Ireland in the opening round with the teams neck and neck in the boys and girls doubles with each team taking a boys and girls doubles victory a piece before moving into the singles. Ireland’s Ethan Davenport beat Calum Tsang 21-17, 21-11 with Andrew Cunningham beating Nathan Luo 22-20, 21-16. Scotland’s Zoe Tait brought a win back beating Arshia Khungar 21-12, 21-11. With two games to go it was down to Jaagruti Mannem to bring it back level, taking on Carol Joy with the game going to three sets with Joy taking the win after three sets 21-16, 15-21, 21-18. Joy went on to win the mixed doubles immediatly after alongside partner Lochlann O Rourke beating Melrick Dsouza and Emily Jobson. Ireland took the victory 6-3.

England faced Wales and took a strong opening win of 9-0 with seven out of the nine wins achieved in two sets. In the girls doubles, Wales’ Samara Britto and Ileana Williams took the first set over Ava Dodkins and Ananya Sanil 21-18 but could not hold on to the lead with the game finishing 21-18, 21-15, 21-12. Britto went on to another three set game in the mixed doubles with Luke Betts against Rory Le Masurier and Mutiara Mandala, with England eventually taking the win 18-21, 21-11, 21-14.

Round Two

England continued dominance, beating Ireland 9-0, with some impressive and competitive displays from both sides. In the opening match in the boys doubles between Olaf Kwiecien and Advait Neelakandan and Lochlann O Rourke and Odhran Scully, the Irish pair lost the first set 21-16 but pushed the second set to 23-21. Carol J0y had an intense opening set against England’s Mutiara Mandala going to 27-25 before conceding with Mandala winning the second set 21-16.

A strong opening doubles display across all four pairs saw Scotland take an early lead against Wales, settling in for some confident performances, winning all their games in two sets.  Nathan Luo’s loss to Luke Betts put Wales back in the running but Scotland’s Yingfan Wang’s win shortly after guaranteed Scotland’s victory.  Jaagruti Mannem then went on to have a particularly commanding performance beating Ileana Williams 21-2, 21-8 with Zoe Tait also taking a win after Ailsa Coles retired. Wales took a win right at the end in the mixed doubles where Luke Betts and Samara Britto beat Melrick Dsouza and Emily Jobson, finishing the result Scotland 7, Wales 2.

 

Round 3

Ireland faced Wales in the final round, taking the first four victories in the boys and girls doubles. Luke Betts had another fantastic game beating Ethan Davenport 21-15, 21-11. In the girls singles the Irish girls had identically strong games with both Carol Joy and Mairead O Sullivan winning their games 21-6, 21-6 over Sienna Harvey and Illena Williams. Luke Betts and Samara Britto provided another win for Wales at the end 21-14, 21-10 over Odhran Scully and Carol Joy, mirroring Scotland’s result over Wales exactly, ending 7-2 to the Irish.

Scotland took on an incredibly dominant England, and were the only team to win games over them finishing 7-2. England took all four doubles games, despite strong efforts from the likes of Melrick Dsouza and Dylan Jia who pushed Arjun Bhattiprolu and Danish Pattanayak 22-20 in the first set, losing the second 21-13. Calum Tsang provided a spirited showing in a top clash against Olaf Kwincien, taking his first singles victory of the day 21-18, 21-17. Yingfan Wang nearly followed suit in a three set battle again Arjun Bhattiprolu, taking the first set but eventually losing 21-13, 13-21, 14-21. Nathan Luo and Jaagruti Mannem provided a nailbiting final game of the day, taking a moral boosting win over Rory Le Masurier and Ava Dodkins 21-16, 24-22, 21-14.

England took Gold, with Ireland in second and Scotland claiming bronze.
