“They’ve put themselves in a position for a real shot at the final” – Mixed doubles final for Dunn and Macpherson
Alex Dunn and Julie Macpherson play in the mixed doubles final of the Hylo Open today after a incredible run of games in Germany. Speaking to Head Coach Ingo Kindervater he was incredibly pleased with their drive throughout. Prior to the tournament he had noted that Scotland’s athletes would be tested in interesting ways due to the narrow depth of competitors.
“It’s been a very cool week for them. Going here and hopefully competing in a lot of interesting matches. Definitely challenging from the first round, they had to adjust a few things but always found solutions. The quarter final was played to really high standard, their best match so far. So it’s just really nice to see what they’re able to achieve when they play to that level.”
Speaking on yesterdays semi final against France’s William Villeger and Flavie Vallet Kindervater admitted it was a nervy game for the pair with them pushing through to win it on a 23-21 third set.
“Yesterday was the semi final – bit of a nervy one. Going in there with a bit of expectations that we could probably win it and then a semi final of that high tournament is a very specific and intense situation so it turned it into a nervy one but they found enough energy and commitment to get through.”
Today at 1pm UK time Dunn and Macpherson take on the Danish third seeds Jesper Toft and Amalie Magelund in the final.
“They’ve put themselves in a position with a shot at the final and we’re going to give it our best shot”
