U13/U17 Victor Midland Junior Gold Tournament Report
U13 Round Up
Doubles for Ivy Yu / Aarav Sinha
The first medals were awarded on Sat afternoon, with GS played as a round robin pool. Ivy Yu (seeded 2) won all 5 matches without dropping a set to claim the title, with Arisha Murkute runner-up.
The BS event followed the seedings, with Aarav (1) progressing to meet Sumanth Prakash (2) in the Final. Aarav had been quite dominant in progressing through the rounds, and also won the final on Sunday afternoon in straight sets.
Earlier on Sunday, unseeded pair Ivy /Matthew Gajri took the Mixed prize, defeating Aarav Sinha/Shreeya Pandey (2) in an exciting 3 set final.
GD was also played as a round robin, Ella Luo/Arisha Murkute coming out on top defeating Mia Kuo/Ivy in a very close deciding match.
The U13 tournament closed with the BD Final, where Aarav/Sumanth (1) faced Joshua & Matthew Gajri (2). This was another exciting match, with Aarav/Sumanth winning in 2 tight sets.
Congratulations to all winners, with special mention to Aarav / Ivy on their double success.
U17 Round Up
Nathan Luo Treble
Mixed was the first final of the U17 events, with favourites Nathan Luo/Shreya Vargheese (1) meeting Dylan Jia/Emma Joshua for the 2nd time in the day. Nathan/Shreya won their earlier qualifying pool match fairly comfortably, but Dylan/Emma put up a great fight in the final, before Nathan/Shreya edged the win in 2 very tight sets.
Next up was the GS Final between Emily Jobson (3/4) and Flo Kirkpatrick (2). On Saturday Emily overcame top seed Shreya in a terrific GS SF match, and her form continued into the Final where she defeated Flo Kirkpatrick (2) in another close battle.
The BS Final saw Nathan (2) face Reyansh Arora (3/4), who had earlier ousted top seed Calum Tsang in a fine 3 set SF match. The final was another high quality tense match, with emotions getting the better of both players on occasion. Nathan taking the title in 2 close sets.
The U17 tournament wrapped up with GD and BD Finals played in parallel, both exciting matches going the full distance. Emma Joshua/Zoe Tait (1) took the GD honours, beating unseeded pairing Maia Baker/Emily Jobson 21-13 in the decider. The top 2 seeds met in BD Final with Nathan/Calum (1) having to fightback from a set down to overcome the challenge of Melrick Dsouza/Dylan Jia (2).
Again congratulations to all U17 winners, and particularly to Nathan on a fantastic treble win!
Many thanks to BSCO Officials for officiating all the Sunday Finals, and to NICC/LiveActive staff for their help during the weekend.
