U15/U19 Victor Midland Junior Gold Report

U15 Round Up

The first medals were awarded on Sun morning, with Mixed played as a round robin pool. Divyam Goyal / Annika Sinha played consistently well throughout winning all their 4 matches without dropping a set, with Yuanxi Cui / Josie Columbine (seeded 1) taking the runners-up spot.

A large entry of 24 in BS resulted in the top 2 seeds meeting in the final. With both players having spells on top, it was Yingfan Wang (2) who took the deciding set 21-16 against Yuanxi (1).

Yuanxi/Yingfan paired up in BD and as expected progressed to the final where they faced unseeded Chris Agnew/Kavin Raman. Chris/Kavin had enjoyed a strong run including wins against both the No2 and No3 seeds en route, but Yuanxi / Yingfan proved to be just too strong taking the win in 2 closely fought sets.

The GS event was very competitive with lots of close matches, and saw Anvita Awasthi (3/4) meet Annika Sinha (2) in the final – Annika taking the honours in straight sets.

In the last match of the U15 age group, Josie Columbine/Annika (1) lifted the GD title defeating Akshara Chavan/Sophie Mackay (2) in two sets.

Congratulations to all prize winners, with special mention to Annika on a fine treble success and Yingfan for his double win.

U19 Round Up

Due to a couple of late withdrawals the GD event was re-drawn and played as a Round Robin on Sat afternoon. Top seeds Anshita Jaiswal/Chloe Mackenzie won all their matches with Jaagruti Mannem/Shreya Vargheese taking the runners-up spot.

Jaagruti (1) also progressed to the GS Final beating Anshita in her SF. The 2nd SF saw Louise Bille-Biggart overcome Deepti Vijayakumar (2) in a high quality match. The Final was another exciting match, with Jaagruti edging the 1st set 21-19, before stretching away to claim the win in straight sets.

Mixed doubles took place earlier on Sun morning, with unseeded Arnav Saraswat/Anshita fighting through a couple of close 3 setters to progress to the final where they faced Lewis Smith/Deepti Vijayakumar (2). Lewis/Deepti were relatively comfortable throughout the whole competition and took the win in straight sets.

Arnav quickly put any disappointment behind him, firstly coming through a tricky BS SF against Lingyun Xiao, before going on to lift the Singles title defeating Ben Ross in the Final, again in 2 sets.

A short time later Arnav/Ben (2) were on the same side, facing top seeds Alfie Martin/Lewis Smith in the BD Final. Alfie/Lewis were pushed hard in the 2nd set but had enough quality & experience to take the win.
Congratulations to Lewis on his Double success, and Arnav on reaching the final in all 3 events.

Many thanks to BSCO Officials for officiating all the Sunday Finals, and to NICC/LiveActive staff for their help during the weekend.
