Victor U13 / U17 Midlands Round Up
U17 Round Up
It was a dominant weekend for Alfie Martin who enjoyed treble success in the Victor Midland Junior Championships held at NICC Perth.
The BS saw the top 2 seeds meet in the final, with Alfie defeating Max McCabe (2) in straight sets.
In one of the best matches of the weekend, Max McCabe/Shreya Vargheese edged out Charlie Junnor/Ingrid Wang (2) in their XD Semi Final taking the deciding set 22-20. In the final Alfie Martin/Qing Yang Xiao (1) proved to be just too strong a pairing with a comfortable win. The last match of the tournament saw Alfie Martin/Charlie Junnor (1) face Adam Li/Max McCabe (2) in U17 BD Final. Alfie/Charlie winning in straight sets to complete Alfie’s treble success – many congratulations! Special mention to Max McCabe for consistently strong performances all weekend and reaching all 3 finals. Jaagruti Mannem Double
In GS, unseeded Flo Kirkpatrick had two fine wins over Shona Brown (2) and Shreya Vargheese (3) on route to her first A Grade final where she faced top seed and strong favourite Jaagruti Mannem. Jaagruti ensured there would be no surprises in the Final with a straight sets win.
The GD event played to the form book, with Jaagruti Mannem/Shreya Vargheese (1) meeting Shona Brown/Lucy Degg (2) in the final. Shona/Lucy put up a strong fight in the 1st set, but Jaagruti/Shreya eased away in the 2nd to claim the title in straight sets.
Congratulations Jaagruti on her double win!
U13 Round Up
Both boys and girls U13 sections were very competitive throughout the weekend, with high standard of play and a number of close 3 set matches.
On Saturday both GD and BD events were played as round robin pools to completion. Bhanu Duvvuri/Ava Li played a great match to upset top seeded Anvita Awasthi/Shona Mackay and claim the GD winners medals. In BD, Saathvik Karthik Saravanan/Sumanth Prakash (2) took the honours, winning all their matches, including a close 3 setter against top seeds and eventual Runners Up Liam
Sinclair/Aarav Sinha. Mixed was also played as a round robin pool on Sunday. This proved to be a particularly competitive event with all 5 pairings playing well and involved in some close 3 set matches. Aarav Sinha/Sophie Mackay (1) with a 100% record emerged as winners, with Liam Sinclair/Anvita Awasthi (2) taking Runners Up spot. The U13 competition closed with the Singles Finals. Aarav Sinha (1) lifted his 2nd title of the weekend, beating Sumanth Prakash (2) in straight sets. The GS final saw Sophie Mackay (2) face unseeded Anvita Awasthi. This was a very exciting encounter, Sophie edging the 1st set 26-24, before closing out the win in straight sets. Congratulations to both Aarav & Sophie on their Double wins! With a special mention to Anvita Awasthi for her fine performances over the weekend, claiming Runners Up medals in all 3 events.
Thanks as always to BSCO Officials for officiating all the SFs and Finals on Sunday, and to NICC/LiveActive staff for all their help during the weekend.
