Yonex Bonn International – Preview
28th May 2026 by Robert McLean
Play got underway yesterday at the YONEX Bonn International in Germany with a strong Scottish contingent competing across multiple events at the Future Series tournament.
Qualification rounds took place in the men’s singles, with Finlay Jack, Angus Meldrum, Matthew Waring and Xiaozhu Jiang all stepping onto court looking to secure places in the main draw.
Angus Meldrum was defeated in straight sets by Chinese Taipei player Yih, while Xiaozhu Jiang also exited qualifying after a straight sets loss to Belgium’s Stockman.
Finlay Jack produced a strong run through qualifying, winning two matches to move within one victory of the main draw before eventually losing out to Vietnam’s To in straight sets.
There was success for Matthew Waring, however, who at the time of writing has successfully progressed into the main draw after an impressive straight sets victory over Singapore’s Ze.
Jiang was also back in action in the mixed doubles alongside England’s Ann Mok. The pair faced a difficult test against German duo Iffland and Emmerich, the number one seeds in qualifying, and were defeated in straight sets.
Attention now turns to today’s action, where Scottish women’s doubles pair Brooke Stalker and Ishbel McCallister begin their campaign in the main draw round of 32 against Dutch duo Spiering and Kloppenburg.
