YONEX BYD Czech Open: Kenny Opens Scottish Campaign as Gilmour Prepares for Prague Challenge

15th October 2026 by Robert McLean

Play is already underway in Prague this morning at the YONEX BYD Czech Open, with Scottish interest getting off to an early start at the international challenge event.

Evan Kenny was among the first players on court, partnering German teenager Aurelia Wulandoko in their first tour-level appearance together in mixed doubles. Promoted from the reserve list, the new pairing faced a difficult opening qualifying encounter against home favourites and world number 362 combination Daniel Dvořák and Kateřina Koliášová.

The Czech duo proved too strong on home soil, producing a dominant performance to secure a 21-11, 21-11 victory and bring Kenny and Wulandoko’s campaign to an early close.

There is, however, more Scottish interest to come on Thursday as Kirsty Gilmour begins her women’s singles campaign in the Czech capital.

Seeded number one for the tournament, Gilmour will be looking to build on her gold medal success in Belgium last month as she targets another strong performance on the international circuit.

Standing in her way in the opening round is Denmark’s Anna Siess Ryberg, currently ranked 115th in the world. With the top seed looking to make a winning start, Gilmour will need to be at her best to negotiate a potentially tricky opening test.

Best of luck to Kirsty as she gets her Czech Open campaign underway in Prague!
