National Senior Squad
The National Senior Squad is made up of elite players, who are deemed to have potential to medal on the Commonwealth, European and World stage.
Senior Squad sessions take place in the National Badminton Academy in Scotstoun, Glasgow, unless circumstances dictate otherwise, in which case alternative training arrangements are made. In the majority of circumstances, sessions are held from Monday to Friday each week, with a morning and afternoon session each day.
The content of all sport-specific and generic training sessions/service provision is at the sole discretion of the National Head Coach. In matters of generic support services, these are delivered in collaboration with appropriate personnel from sportscotland Institute of Sport, where deemed appropriate.
Players invited to join the National Senior Squad are not guaranteed to be nominated for selection to the sportscotland Institute of Sport programme. All nominations to this programme are at the discretion of Badminton Scotland’s High Performance Group, which consists of Badminton Scotland’s Chief Executive, Chair of Performance and Head Coach, and sportscotland’s High Performance Manager.
The length of invitation to the squad will be at the sole discretion of the National Head Coach, as will be continued involvement after each agreed invitation/selection period. Additionally, training programmes will be delivered at the discretion of the National Coaching Team.
Squad members follow the competition programme given to them by the National Head Coach, who has discretion on all competition matters, including club matches. However, outwith exceptional circumstances, it is mandatory for National Senior Squad players to enter both the Scottish Open, and Scottish National Championships each year.
There is a finite level of resources available to the National Senior Squad programme and so allocation of these resources to players in the Squad is at the discretion of the High Performance Group.

Aim of Senior Development Squad
The Senior Development Squad is aimed at preparing players for the transition from Junior to Senior badminton. The squad will develop all necessary components required to meet the demands of training with the senior squad and competing at senior level.
Eligibility
- Players should be eligible to represent Scotland under the BWF regulations.
- Players must be affiliated members of Badminton Scotland.
- Players should be competing regularly in Badminton Scotland events.
Expectations
- Players will be expected to agree a weekly training programme with the lead coach.
- This will include on-court sessions and a physical programme prescribed by the coach.
Selection/Deselection
The main factor used for selections will be achieving the appropriate standards/results of the appropriate age group over the previous 12 months. Results achieved with heavily weakened fields will be taken into consideration but do not guarantee selection.
If all available squad places are not filled, the Performance Coaches may select certain athletes based on tournament performances and perceived ability. This will encompass technical, tactics, physical and mental attributes.
Squad places will be for the following year, upon which they again will be reviewed.
Players not committing to the subscribed training regime can be warned or deselected throughout the year.
Players not adhering to Badminton Scotland’s code of conduct can be warned or deselected throughout the year.
