Bumper Entry for Scottish Open

A host of elite athletes from around the world will descend on the Glasgow International Arena from 19-22 November for the Scottish Open Badminton Championships.

The third oldest open tournament in the world has attracted a bumper entry this year of 372 players from 37 countries with players travelling from as far afield as Korea, Malaysia and India in the east and Canada and USA in the west.

But to become Scottish Open champion, these elite international players will have to get the better of several of Scotland’s home grown stars, many of whom will fancy their chances of a podium finish come Sunday 22 November.

Julie MacPherson and Ciara Torrance will be aiming to take the final step up to the top of the rostrum in 2026, having agonisingly lost out in a final three-set thriller last year to Korea’s Kim Min Ji and Ye Na Lee.

MacPherson will also be aiming to be in contention in the mixed doubles, alongside Alex Dunn, but the 2024 champions will have to get the better of one of the strongest mixed doubles fields in recent years to take the gold medal.

In men’s doubles two Scottish pairings will be going for gold. Dunn and partner Adam Pringle will be aiming to improve on the semi-final place they achieved in the first season of their partnership back in 2024 while Christopher and Matthew Grimley will have their sights set on a second Scottish Open crown, to go with their 2021 triumph.

Belgian Julien Carraggi, the 2024 men’s singles champion, starts as favourite for this year’s event while Germany’s Yvonne Li starts as favourite in the women’s singles.

Badminton Scotland CEO Alan McMillan said: “we are delighted to have received another great entry at the Scottish Open Badminton Championship this year and I’m looking forward to the event getting underway.

“This tournament has always been a highlight on the European badminton calendar, showcasing top-tier talent from around the world while providing a platform for our local players to compete at the highest level.

“Once again we have some real medal hopes, especially in the doubles events, so I hope we can get as many fans as possible to the Glasgow International Arena to cheer our home-grown stars on to success.”

The Scottish Open Badminton Championships is staged by Badminton Scotland at the Emirates Arena with support from City of Glasgow.
